The boys and I are in the middle of reading Because of Winn-Dixie and it is such a great story! I am enjoying it as much as they are and they are getting a kick out of my southern accent. Maybe I am weird but certain books beg to be read aloud with accents and this is definitely one of 'em! We are up to chapter 12, the chapters are pretty short, and there have been so many great lines I am feeling the need to share them.
Chapter 9:
Gloria Dump: You know, my eyes ain't too good at all. I can't see nothing but the general shape of things, so I got to rely on my heart. Why don't you go on and tell me everything about yourself, so I can see you with my heart.
Chapter 10:
Opal: I could feel her listening with her heart, and it felt good.
Chapter 11 has so much good stuff that I would have to type the whole thing. Read it for yourself, you won't be disappointed. If you have ever been afraid of anything you will simply love this chapter.

I just received my Art In Story book by Marianne Saccardi and I really can't wait to begin art history with the boys. As I have said before they attend art lessons with a wonderful lady and she does include art history but I have been feeling like I want to study art with them and this book came very highly recommended. One of the things I have loved most about homeschooling this year is that we are studying the arts. They are developing an appreciation for classical music and they recognize the music. They can actually tell the difference between Beethoven and Vivaldi, how cool is that? We studied Bach last week and they blew Kevin away with their knowledge of the Baroque music era, as well as interesting tidbits about the composer himself.
In science we have moved onto the human body and we are using My Body by Teacher Created Materials. We are learning about all of the different organs and functions of that organ. The pages are reproducible and we color the organ and cut it out. We bought that really big paper and traced their bodies and now we are putting the organs on the body. It has been so much fun to review what each part does and I am amazed at how much they have learned!
Today has been a fun day! One of those day where I am thrilled to homeschool!

I was listening to a conversation that John and Jeremy were having regarding marriage. It went something like this:
John: When I get married I am going to go to work and my wife will stay at home with the kids.
Jeremy: I am going to get married but I am going to stay home with the kids.
John: You mean you aren't going to have a job.
Jeremy: No, I don't know what I want to do.
John: You can work for me.
Jeremy: (crickets)
It continued later on:
John: Don't you want to have your own house?
Jeremy: I want to stay with mommy. She does everything I need.
That about says it all!

I can almost hear your southern accent down here. We really enjoyed Because of Winn Dixie, the movie but I am sure the book is so much better. Your enthusiam for/ contentment in homeschooling is evident in your writings. They are very lucky,uh,blessed children.
Keep the "fly on the wall" conversations coming. I love them.
Amazing how they figure out that "Mom does all the stuff I need" way of thinking real fast. My nephew (that my Mom raised) has moved in with is wife. Grandma does all the "stuff" he needs also. Your boys sound fantastic (that comes from a great Mom). Keep up the good work. Love your blogs.

Reading your blogs is so refreshing and enlightening. I loved the boys conversation - how cute are they? It does not take long to realize when you have a good thing - like a good Mom!
