What I Did On My Trip To Colorado by Laney

I finished reading Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston and I can so with no reservations, read it, you will not be disappointed! I was completely and utterly amazed at his fortitude and will to live, it really is a triumph of the human spirit. It was also very fitting that I was completing the book in Colorado, the place he calls home. Maybe I am odd but I felt this weird connection, almost as if I knew him. I read the last two chapters three times and cried everytime because my heart was so overwhelmed with pride, happiness, relief and a gamut of emotions I can't express. See, I am odd! Anyway, this book was terrific and when my boys get old enough it will be on their reading list. Actually, when I brought it home from the library John said to me, "Mommy, after dinner can you read this book to us?" He and Jeremy kept asking me if it was good and to tell them about what was happening. There are some pictures in it as well and they enjoyed looking at them.

I also read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and it was also terrific but for different reasons. I always enjoy reading books that are set in the south, they really appeal to me. There are some great passages in it as well.

Chapter Five: "The first week at August's was a consolation, a pure relief. The world will give you that once in a while, a brief timeout; the boxing bell rings and you go to your corner, where someone dabs mercy on your beat-up life."

Don't you love that? Whose life can I dab mercy on?

I could go on but I don't want to spoil it for you. It is a quick read and it will surprise you at the end when your eyes are brimming with tears and your heart aches with melancholy for a girl you don't even know. And then it will surprise you when you are laughing out loud at "The Daughters". Two thumbs up!!

I started Paradise by A.L. Kennedy and could barely get through the first chapter. This one I do not recommend. But who am I? I used to think Danielle Steele was literature! LOL!!!

Good Luck and good life to you as well.

I love it when people recommend good books they have read. I'm in between books right now (reading Ladies Home Journal instead-hee hee). So I'm taking the kids to the library today (egads-I'm dreading the late fees we may have incurred), and I will pick up one of those books you suggested.
