The Hard Things

Well, I was going to get up this morning and write a really funny blog about the Sam's Club experience that I had last night, but I received a phone call at 6:45a.m. that was just not funny at all.

My mother-in-law called and left a rather urgent sounding message to please call her. I called her immediately and got her voice mail. I had that feeling, deep within the pit of my stomach, that I was about to be delivered some grave news. My first thought was for my sister-in-law, who is stationed in Iraq, and I just began to pray. My sister-in-law, Jane, called me and told me the terrible news that Kevin's oldest brother, John, had died of a heart attack. I was at a loss for words.

I had the heartwrenching task of calling Kevin to tell him what happened, he is away this weekend with John and Jeremy at a Father/Child Retreat with our church. I simply can't think of anything worse than calling my husband, who is two hours away, to tell him over the phone, that his brother has died. He cried and my heart just broke.

Kevin's mother, was insistent that he not come home. She said that there was nothing he could do right now and she would need him later on in the week. I can't begin to imagine his grief. My friends, could I be so bold as to ask for your prayers, once again?

Thank-you.

I'm a new reader to your blog, but my heart goes out to your family. I will most definitely keep your family in my prayers. I know that God will wrap His arms around each and every one of you.

Oh Laney, he must have been so young. :-( It's probably a good thing that he's at a retreat with other men who love both him and the Lord. He'll have a lot of support there, and then more when he gets home to you.

I'm so, so very sorry Laney. Does his mom live nearby?

I will be praying for comfort and peace during this very difficult time.

Love,
Jess

Oh, Laney. I am so sorry. Please give Kevin a hug. Spread them around, actually, and an extra one for you, too. You're definitely in our prayers.

Hugs to Kevin & his family. I feel Kevin's pain--there are no words to express my sorrow at the death of his brother. John's work here was done, & God needed him in Heaven, but it is oh so hard for those who are left here with only memories. Celebrate John's life!!!
Blessed be...
