Fashion Friday: The home school edition

Home schoolers get a bad fashion rap, I know we do. The very word "home schooler" conjures up notions of denim jumpers, high neck blouses, and sensible shoes. Not a very provocative image, right?

I am here to denounce the myth that home school fashion is dowdy, frumpy and otherwise geeky. As a side note, did you know that Webster defines a geek in the following manner: a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken. First of all, ew. Second, raise your hand if you knew that.

Anyway. On Mondays I teach at a home school co-op. Every Monday I look forward to seeing the stylishly dressed and quite beautiful moms. No carnival freaks at our co-op. No sir-ree! In the words of the ever brilliant and always stylish, Tim Gunn, they make it work. If you are a home school mom, and you are stuck in a fashion rut, this post is for you.

Can we talk about The Mom Jean? They are a sacrilege to denim. Jeans should never ride up so high that the line between your bra and your pants is indistinguishable. I am not saying that you have to go the low rise jean route, just explore other options. This is a great tutorial on how to buy a great fitting pair of jeans. And they don't have to be expensive.

Cute tops like this and this can be worn with jeans or shorts. You can be stylish at the park play day or on a field trip. And then there are these two tops. Oh, I love! I love!
I know what you are thinking, and yes, you can wear ruffles to the grocery store, or Home Depot, or to a tractor pull. Remember, in the wise words of Clairee Belcher, "The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize." Wise, wise words. Heed them, my friends.

Sundresses are always another option. There is something about putting on a dress that makes me feel instantly feminine and beautiful without being over dressed. This dress and this dress, both from Forever 21, would work for a mom who wants to be fashion forward, yet still dress modestly and age appropriately.

Today I am off to the ENOCH home school convention. I love the convention. Books, vendors, friends, coffee. What more could a girl ask for? Now, off to shower and dress up in something cute!

You are so right, why not look beautiful even at the grocery store.

Thank you for your comment on my rose pens. I have not sold any since I closed my old shop down.

They are really easy to make, one rose, green floral tape and a pen. All of this can be found at your local craft store.

If I start up a new shop I will start selling again and I will let you know.

Hey!

First of all, I apoligize for giving us homeschool moms a bad name.

Sweats are comfortable and my husband is never home and how do you know about tractor pulls? I really thought that was pretty hush-hush...I'd never heard of them til moving to Smalltown USA.

Honestly...I just feel WEIRD dressed up.

You mean mismatched pj's (sans bra), a hair scrunchie, and holey slippers are not HAWT?
